Natural Juices to Boost Your Low Hemoglobin Levels

Hemoglobin is a protein containing iron that facilitates the transport of oxygen in red blood cells. Hemoglobin in the blood carries oxygen from the respiratory organs to the other tissues of the body, where it releases the oxygen to enable aerobic respiration which powers metabolism.

Here are some common symptoms associated with low hemoglobin:

  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Pale skin and gums
  • Shortness of breath, especially during physical activity.
  • A fast or irregular heartbeat
Here are some natural juices that can boost your hemoglobin level:

Pomegranate juice
Pomegranate is a good source of iron, with approximately 0.3 milligrams of iron per 100 grams. It contains non-heme iron, which is plant-based and easily absorbed by the body when consumed alongside vitamin c-rich foods3.

Prune Juice
Dried plums, also known as prunes, are a rich source of plant-based iron. Data suggests that 240 ml (one cup) of prune juice provides 2.8mg of iron, 17% of the daily requirement. Besides its iron-rich content, prune juice helps boosts energy.

Beetroot Juice
Beetroot is high in numerous essential nutrients like folate, manganese, potassium, iron, betaine, and vitamin C. Additionally, it improves the oxygen uptake in red blood cells. Studies show that regular consumption of beetroot juice can indeed improve hemoglobin levels. As a result, it increases the oxygen supply in the body.

Mint Juice
Mint leaves have a surprisingly high amount of iron with 100 g of mint leaves containing 15.6 mg of iron. Adding 1 cup of fresh mint everyday will give you 4 mg of iron.  Blend mint leaves with 1/2 cup water and some lime juice for a refreshing iron rich drink.\

Mulberry juice
One cup of mulberry juice contains 2 mg of iron. Compared to other fruits, mulberries have significantly lower calories and carbohydrates since they are 88% water. This makes them a great choice if weight loss is also a consideration. Mulberries are rich in various micronutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin K, Potassium, and vitamin E. Their high vitamin C content is a bonus as vitamin C plays a critical role in iron absorption and cellular iron uptake.

Tomato juice
One cup of tomato juice contains about 1 mg of iron, besides an array of other vitamins and minerals,
moreover, one cup of tomato juice provides nearly all of your daily vitamin C needs, further enhancing the absorptive capacity of iron.

Passion fruit juice
Passion fruit juice is not only delicious but an incredibly healthy iron-rich juice. It contains a high iron content at 0.89 mg per one cup. Like the other juices, it is also rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, and magnesium.

Pineapple juice
Pineapple juice, besides offering various health benefits, including improved digestion, enhanced heart health, and reduced inflammation, also provides a rich source of iron, containing 0.8 mg in 1 cup of juice. Similar to the other juices mentioned, its high vitamin C content enhances the absorption of iron.

Grape juice
Grape juice provides 0.6 mg of iron per one cup, besides providing a variety of other micronutrients, including antioxidants and flavonoids.

Guava Juice
Guavas are not only delicious but also an excellent source of vitamin C and iron. One cup of sliced guava provides around 0.9 milligrams of iron.
